Days 30 & 31: Don't Read on an Empty Stomach

Yesterday wasn't me skipping. I promise. There just wasn't a lot to say. I got up, went to class, came home, took a nap that turned into nearly a full nights sleep, and did my homework. Nothing you really needed to hear about.

Oh! But I did go to Abu Rabiyya for lunch. For those of you who read the Flagship Blog you know that's the little Arab fast food restaurant that's so popular among students. They warned us about going there during the summer, because food spoils more quickly, but recommended that we still try it, as long as we were careful about what we ordered. So I, along with a few friends, trekked over during break. The hummus was great, and the fried cheese. For my meal I had an Arab hamburger of sorts. I don't even remember what it was called, but it tasted a bit like a hot dog on a burger bun. I think I might be a little sick from it today, but it's nothing drastic. Mostly just discomfort.

Today was almost as uneventful, though Egyptian Dialect class was extra fun. I had a presentation on spinsters in Egypt (I can elaborate on that if anyone's interested in a culture lesson), and then we learned about the different things we're going to see in Sinai: Saint Katherine's monastery, the direct descendant of Moses' burning bush, and a whole lot of sand.

Meghan has been craving American pizza for a while now, and I can't say it didn't sound good, so instead of eating at the dorms for dinner we went to the local Pizza Hut. It was expensive, as expected, but incredibly delicious. We got a "King Crust" pizza, which I've never seen in America. Its crust is inlaid with cream cheese and meat balls so that it looks like a crown. The meat balls were okay, the cheese was to die for. Also, like at McDonald's, the soundtrack was pleasantly surprising, and the wait staff very accommodating to Americans without refusing to speak Arabic.

That's really it for the last two days. Tomorrow we leave for Sinai directly after class. I am taking my computer with me this time because we'll be gone for four days (until Sunday), but I'm not sure what the internet availability will be at the hotels. Hopefully I won't fall behind like I did during/after the Cairo trip, but if I'm too tired I hope you'll excuse me for sleeping instead of writing.
